The National Institute of Technology for Life, Food and Environmental Sciences (France)
AgroParisTech is a higher education and research institution aiming at addressing some of the main global challenges of the 21st century: feeding a growing population while sustainably managing territories, preserving natural resources, supporting innovation and developing the bioeconomy. While doing so, it addresses the following fields: agricultural sciences and technologies, forestry, life sciences, food technology, biotechnologies, environment, nutrition, health, land and natural resources management, as well as related public policies.
The institute offers high level training for Master of Science in Engineering, Master of Science and PhD students as well as lifelong learning programs, while focusing on research and innovation thanks to its joint research units. AgroParisTech is organised in 5 education and research departments.

In 2021, AgroParisTech was ranked 3rd at the European level and 4th at the global level by the QS Ranking for the subject “Agriculture and Forestry” and, being component institution of Université Paris-Saclay, is ranked 12th in Agricultural Sciences by the Shanghai Ranking’s global ranking of academic subjects 2021.
AgroParisTech is currently involved in more than 50 European projects, including 9 Cooperation partnership projects, being coordinator of one of them (FOEBE - Fostering Entrepreneurship for the Bioeconomy).


Involved persons

Olivier Vitrac
PhD, senior scientist at the French National Research Institute for Research in Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), working at the University of Paris-Saclay in the Joint Research Unit SayFood, in the team Modeling and Computational Engineering. Olivier Vitrac is the main developer and administrator of the platform FitNESS (fitness.agroparistech.fr, awarded for best practice) and author of several computational approaches for safe-bydesign and ecodesign approaches of food packaging, taught on and connected to the platform. He is the scientific coordinator of the technological unit between the French National Reference Laboratory LNE and AgroParisTech in Paris. After a Ph.D. and habilitation in Chemical Engineering, Paris, he worked for 20 years on developing migration modeling and risk management methodologies for packaging. Current research focuses on bridging atomistic simulations with the food scale.

Steward Ouadi
Steward Ouadi studied Computer Science, more precisely Software Engineering at the University of Bordeaux and obtained his Master in 2017.
He has participated in the development of software in different industries, including marketing, road safety and food packaging.
He ensures the development of the FitNESS platform.

Sandra Domenek
Sandra Domenek is assistant professor at AgroParisTech, UMR SayFood, UMT SafeMat, Director of the patronage Chair CoPack.
Since 2008 I am developing novel packaging concepts using biobased and biodegradable polymers meeting high quality and safety standards. My scientific expertise includes physical chemistry of polymers and polymer physics, functional properties and formulation of polymer materials, aging and degradation studies, food/packaging interactions, analytical chemistry. Within this context I supervised to date 11 doctorate thesis, participated in 6 national and international research projects and created a patronage chair. The Chair CoPack aims to federate the packaging and supply chain from packaging producers to actors of the end-of-life treatments in ordre to develop eco-designed packaging and food distribution solutions integrating the needs of members of the supply chain. My teaching activity includes lectures, laboratory courses and project supervision in food and polymer sciences, green chemistry, packaging science for undergraduate and postgraduate students. I published 76 research papers (incl. book chapters and proceedings), hold one patent and gave more than 80 conferences in international congresses.

Murielle Hayert
Murielle Hayert is assistant-professor at AgroParisTech in Food Process Engineering. She will contribute to develop the technical and scientific dataflow for plugins and content associated to real-time simulations. Besides, she will build the reference lecture content and online simulations on mass transfer in and across food packaging, food product shelf-life calculation, etc.
